When we were younger, it was much easier to dream big. We had things we were passionate about doing and had dreams of taking it to great heights. The world was at our feet, and we saw ourselves becoming and doing whatever we chose in future.

Fast forward to adulthood.

Our brains got loaded with much more important issues – forget ruling the world, let’s even first survive in this world first.

Reality and its challenges got us shackled with thoughts of how to survive in this jungle. How to pay the bills. The high exchange rate. How to make low investments and get the highest returns. The struggle to get a promotion, or even to get a good job. And the list is endless.

As we go about our daily hustle, we get carried away pursuing small goals and forget to see a bigger picture. The struggle to make a living can be so consuming, we forget to think beyond that. Forget to think beyond just making a living. Buying a new car. Paying school fees. Getting an apartment. Getting a better apartment.

We start sweating (really hard) for the small stuff.

All the big dreams we had when we were younger are forgotten thanks to the nightmare of pursuing our daily needs and wants.

But it’s never too late to get back on track. It’s not too late to re-awaken your passion. The seed is still buried inside you and just needs to be watered.

Without quitting your day job, here are four simple ways to re-awaken your passion.

You need to deliberately always think about that dream. And talk about it – even if it’s just to yourself. Don’t relegate it to the back of your mind anymore. Bring your passion from the booth to the passenger seat, so as you drive through life every day, it is right there beside you.

There are so many things that keep us from pursuing our passions – don’t dwell on those things. Whatever the challenges may be, remove your mind from them and think only of possibilities. Think of how far you want to go, and believe you can reach there.

Don’t leave your dreams as dreams. Have a laid down plan on what you want to do and how you intend achieving them. Back to my earlier question, where do you see yourself in 10 years? What are the things you need to do to get there? Create a road-map of actions to take you there.

Every day, do something towards achieving your goal. It could be a physical thing, or a mental thing like doing research. Just do something. No matter how small the action. Constantly taking steps towards your dream is what will get you there.

I hope this has been able to rekindle a spark inside you. See you next Monday for more on chasing your dreams.
